Mia Ryan Interview

We ran an competition to select an inspirational photo to share on our Instagram page, and Mia Ryan stood out from the crowd. Here is a short interview of Mia and her dancing.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Mia Ryan and I'm 13 years old from Bathurst, Australia. I'm a dance student at Dance Dynamic Studios Bathurst and Alive Performing Arts Sydney.

When did you begin dancing?

I started when I was two and a half years old when mum wanted me to socialise with others.

What inspires you to dance?

The freedom! The fact that I can zone out and just go into my own world when I dance. I love to perform on stage and it's fun. This is what I want to do in the future.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am starting dance for 2017 and have done workshops and competitions over the summer holidays in Australia. This year I am working on progressing my dance by travelling 2 hours (to and from Bathurst) to Sydney every week to dance in an Open Choreography class at Alive Performing Arts. I have my sights set on auditioning this year for the NSW State Ensemble Dance Group and to be a feature at School Spectacular in NSW. I will be continuing to take workshops at the Sydney Dance Company and I would like to further my contemporary dance style. I hope to study dance at school in my senior years.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I would love to continue with dance and make it my career. At some stage I have my heart set on dancing with the Sydney Dance Company. My dream would be travelling the world dancing, choreographing, singing and acting. I have my sights set on working with some celebrities; either backup dancing, choreographing for music videos and live concerts.
